The Warning System
The warning system on The Nerd Republic works as follows; you will see that on your profile you have a 'warning bar', which displays the amount of warnings you have had and have left.
This board allows you to have four official warnings before you are banned. Official warnings are given when any of the following rules are breached, however, because we appreciate that new users are sometimes prone to making mistakes, an unofficial 'verbal' warning will be given for the first rule breakage. The only exceptions to this are for Rule 1 (of which the details are noted in the relevant section), and other rules which require immediate action (Rule 2, Rule 5, Rule 6, Rule 7, Rule 11 and Rule 12).
After members have exhausted all four warnings, their account is permanently banished from the board. In some cases, temporary banishments will be given if the moderation team deems it appropriate (such instances are outlined below).
Rules for Members
Here is a short and concise list of the rules.
• Rule 1) No spam
• Rule 2) No bullying
• Rule 3) No swearing
• Rule 4) Do not abuse the Personal Messaging system and the Reports system
• Rule 5) Do not disrespect anyone
• Rule 6) Do not create alternative accounts
• Rule 7) Do not post explicit/inapproriate material/discussion
• Rule 8) No not make biased threads that disallow criticism and/or debate
• Rule 9) Always REPORT rule breakages instead of trying to deal with them yourself
• Rule 10) Do not bring external matters onto the forum
• Rule 11) Do not give your password to anyone
• Rule 12) Supply your real name upon registration
• Rule 13) Do not republish The Nerd Republic content
• Rule 14) Attacking the forum will result in an immediate permanent-ban
It is still recommended, however, that you read the full comprehensive set of rules below that explain each rule and how you will be sanctioned for breaking them. New members are especially advised to read these rules fully:
Rule 1) Spam
All of the following forms of spam are prohibited:
-Posts with less than at least three words (excluding emoticons, pictures and quotations).
-Submitting two posts in a row in the same thread within the same day.
-Spoilers (outside of the appropriate threads or a spoiler tag).
-Posting with no relevance (especially after being told by a moderator/admin to get back on topic).
-Posting only to increase your post count.
-Posting in ‘text speak’ and/or unreadable grammar and spelling.
-Promoting websites outside of 'The Lounge' section.
-Promoting websites and/or external media using the Personal Message system (see Rule 5).
Because we know that this is the one rule that is the easiest to mistakenly break, we will make an exception to the Warning System and allow three unofficial verbal warnings prior to any official warning or ban for this particular rule. After these three verbal warnings have passed, however, we will give an official warning and a 24 hour ban. Continued offences will result in an official warning and 24 hour bans or longer, according to moderator discretion. In extreme cases where spam is being deliberately made and/or on an extreme level, moderators may bypass the prior three verbal warnings and use a 24 hour ban and official warning.
Please bear in mind that administrators can delete posts and threads at their own will and discretion according to the rules.
Rule 2) Bullying
Bullying is absolutely forbidden on this forum. We consider all of the following as bullying:
-Name calling.
-Teasing.
-Insults.
-Intolerance & discrimination of a person's beliefs/opinions, including religious beliefs.
-Racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.
-Prejudice.
-Violence/threats.
-Slander/libel/defamation.
-Abusive/hateful language/discussion/remarks.
If you are reported to be bullying a member, the moderators and administrators will look into the case. If you are indeed found guilty of bullying then you will be banned for 31 days and you will receive an official warning. If, when you return, you continue to bully a member (or a different member) then you will be banned for a longer period of time and risk being permanently banned from the forum.
All cases of bullying are subject to official authority intervention (i.e. the police) – if a member wishes to report a case of bullying to the police then this must be done by their own accord: The Nerd Republic would like to try and solve cases within our own moderation and administration teams, but if necessary The Nerd Republic is willing to help authorities with cases of bullying.
Rule 3) Swearing
This is a family-orientated forum that is home to many young adult and child members. Swearing is completely and utterly prohibited.
Those that break thise rule will be sanctioned accordingly to where they are on their own Warning Level (see 'The Warning System' at the top of this page).
We consider all of the following words to be swearing - click the following link to see the list: https://i.servimg.com/u/f39/17/81/03/79/censor10.png
Please note that new words may be added to the list in the future. If they are, you will be notified.
Rule 4) The 'Personal Message' and 'Report' Systems
Personal Messages (also known as 'PMs') are not to be used to:
-Bully (see Rule 2).
-Promote and advertise outside of 'The Lounge' section (see Rule 1).
-Spam (see Rule 1).
Those that break thise rule will be sanctioned accordingly to where they are on their own Warning Level (see 'The Warning System' at the top of this page).
Rule 5) Respect Administrators, Moderators and Members
Disrespect will not be accepted from anyone. All of the following is deemed as disrespectful:
-Ignoring members out of spite.
-Grudges against members you have fallen out with.
-Rude criticism of people's work, projects, actions, etc - constructive criticism is allowed and encouraged, but take manners and kindness into consideration.
-Not following instructions from a moderator or administrator.
-Not answering a moderator or administrator's question despite clearly being online to see the question(s).
-Contempt and pretentious posts towards other members, mods or admins.
-Insults of any kind (repeated insults will be sanctioned as bullying under Rule 2)
-Disregarding and disrespecting people's ideas, comments, suggestions, opinions and/or beliefs.
Rule 5 bypasses the initial 'Verbal Warning' for those that haven't received a saction of any kind before due to the severity of the rule. If you break this rule, you will be banned immediately for 24 hours and receive an Official Warning.  Repeated breakages of this rule will be met with longer banishments according to moderator discretion, but will at least receive an Official Warning and a 24 hour ban each time as a minimum penalty.
Rule 6) Alternative Accounts
You are permitted to only have ONE account on this forum. If you are found to have alternative accounts you will be sanctioned.
Rule 6 bypasses the first 'Verbal Warning' for those that haven't received a sanction of any kind before due to the severity of the rule. If you break this rule, you will be banned immediately for 24 hours and receive an Official Warning.  Repeated breakages of this rule will be met with longer banishments according to moderator discretion, but will at least receive an Official Warning and a 24 hour ban each time as a minimum penalty.
Rule 7) Explicit and Inappropriate Material/Discussion
Explicit and inappropriate material/discussion is prohibited. Some exceptions can be made but we consider all of the following as unacceptable:
-Pornographic material.
-Images of nudity.
-Sexual and inappropriate discussion.
-Music/videos/other materials with pornographic scenes, inappropriate imagery, explicit words and language or sexual & inappropriate discussion.
-Graphic and violent imagery/discussion.
Exceptions can be made for:
-Music/videos that have mildly bad language but the thread/post MUST be labelled with an appropriate age restriction/guideline, but if a moderator or administrator still deems the material to be inappropriate then you will be sanctioned accordingly.
-Discussion of films/TV programs that have an age restriction for people ages 15 years and above CAN be allowed if the thread/post is labelled with an appropriate age restriction/guideline, as long as non of the explicit material is reproduced and posted on the forum in the form of a video, image, audio file, etc. You are allowed to discuss these explicit films so long as you make the age restriction/guideline clear, keep the discussion reasonable and do not go over the top.
-(This rule is aimed at administrators) If there are images/banners/posters on the forum linking to a thread that is about, for example, a film or TV program that has an age restriction/guideline then the age certificate must clearly be placed on the image, too, so that people can also see the age restriction before they click on banner/poster.
Rule 7 bypasses the initial 'Verbal Warning' for those that haven't received a sanction of any kind before due to the severity of the rule. If you break this rule, you will be banned immediately for 24 hours and receive an Official Warning.  Repeated breakages of this rule will be met with longer banishments according to moderator discretion, but will at least receive an Official Warning and a 24 hour ban each time as a minimum penalty.
Rule 8) Biased Discussions (i.e. 'Appreciation Threads')
A one sided, biased discussion that disallows criticism and opposition in debate is a hindrance of freedom of speech and is therefore not just immoral but against the law. Biased discussion threads will either be deleted or edited.
Those that break thise rule will be sanctioned accordingly to where they are on their own Warning Level (see 'The Warning System' at the top of this page).
Rule 9) Reporting Abuse & Rule Breakages
When you see rule breaking on the forum, DO NOT attempt to correct said person's actions. This is defying the job of the moderators. If a member involves him/herself in an argument over someone's rule breaking then they have broken this rule.
If you see abuse, you MUST use the report button and tell a moderator. ONLY MEMBERS OF STAFF ARE PERMITTED TO DEAL WITH RULE BREAKAGES: this includes pointing out people's offenses on the forum, chatbox or personal messages. Moderators will tend to the problem immediately, but if you try to sort things out yourself then you are only getting yourself into trouble.
Those that break thise rule will be sanctioned accordingly to where they are on their own Warning Level (see 'The Warning System' at the top of this page).
For information on how to report abuse, please immediately contact and administrator or moderator.
Rule 10) External Matters
It is forbidden to bring external matters onto the forum. For example, if you have an argument on another website, forum or other source of communication, you are not allowed to bring said argument onto the forum. It is nothing to do with The Nerd Republic, thus it is not something we are permitted to deal with. This doesn't mean, however, that you are not allowed to discuss other forums - it merely means that you are not allowed to bring external feuds to the forum.
Those that break thise rule will be sanctioned accordingly to where they are on their own Warning Level (see 'The Warning System' at the top of this page).
Rule 11) Password/Account Swapping
It is prohibited to give your password to ANYONE else. Giving away your password causes security risks. If someone claiming to be a Forumotion official, The Nerd Republic administrator or moderator asks you for your password, do NOT give it to them under ANY circumstance. No genuine admins/mods or anyone else of authority - or even standard members - on the forum will ask you for your password, and if they do then they are also breaking this rule by asking you for your password.
If you give away your password to someone and that someone then changes your password and takes control of your account, we will reset the password for you. However, when you get back into your account you will receive a 7 day ban for breaking this rule in the first place. The person you gave the password to will also receive a 7 day ban if they are also a member of The Nerd Republic . However, if you refuse to tell us who you gave the password to, we will ban you both for a longer duration of 14 days. No Verbal Warnings will be given for first offenses neither, regardless of where you are on your own Warning Level, due to the severity of the rule.
Rule 12) Fraud
Upon registration you are required to supply your real name (only admins can see your real name, no one else). If you fail to supply a real name and in fact give a false name then this is fraud which is a criminal offense and you may be prosecuted. Using someone else's name is also illegal. Offenders will be immediately PERMANENTLY BANNED with no prior verbal warning or official warnings - fraud is a serious crime and, for the safety and security of our members and our website, we will not allow any persons onto the forum that do not provide a correct name. This is because if you break an extreme rule like Rule 2) Bullying, we need to be able to give REAL names to police if you are bullying someone. For the safety of everyone on the forum, everyone is required to supply their real name.
Rule 13) Republishing The Nerd Republic Content
It is prohibited to republish any content that  The Nerd Republic owns without an initial approval by a moderator, administrator or any other forum member that may own content posted on this forum/website. You are not allowed to copy and paste any extracts from either the forum/website or the chatbox.
Those that break these rule will be sanctioned accordingly to where they are on their own Warning Level (see 'The Warning System' at the top of this page).
However, if you are republishing The Nerd Republic content onto other forums/websites in order to either bully members (see Rule 2) or provoke arguments/feuds between this website and another then you will receive a 31 day banishment and an Official Warning. Bullying and "fire starting" is strictly prohibited, thus such cases will not be dealt with lightly.
Rule 14) Spam Attacks
It is against the rules to attack the forum with spam, trolling or anything of the sort. This rule is mainly aimed at organised troll attacks, but anyone who attacks the forum in anyway can be sanctioned.
Attacking the forum is a severe rule breakage and will be punished with an immediate permanent ban of your account, thus bypassing the Warning System. This is because trolling attacks can be dangerous and messy. We will not risk allowing trolls onto our forum.
Rules for Admins and Mods
Rule A) Rules for Members
Administrators and moderators are subject to ALL of the above rules that members are, too, and must abide by them and also can be sanctioned for them as equally as anyone else.
Rule B) The Adding/Removing of Administrators/Moderators
It is against the rules for anyone with the capability to remove an administrator or moderator from the team to do so without a unanimous vote by the whole admin/mod team, excluding the person in question.
Rule C) Rule Changes
The rules are NOT allowed to be altered, removed or added unless approved by a majority vote of the entire administrator and moderator team.
If a moderator or administrator changes the rules without permission and without a majority vote, they will be relieved of their duties and will be removed from the admin/mod team. In addition, they will also receive a 24 hour ban and an official warning with no initial 'Verbal Warning' or 'Unofficial Warning'.
Changes to the rules, and also the admin/mod team (see Rule B), before this rule that have not been voted on do not count, as they are not subject to this rule since it was added afterwards.
An original copy of the rules has been saved, so if any sneaky alterations are made to the rules, they will be noticed by Scary (who has the original copy) and therefore the culprits will be discovered and then punished.
Rule D) Admins/Mods are not Above the Rules
All of the above rules apply to administrators and moderators all the same and so do the relevant sanctions.
Rule E) The Rules Cannot be Vetoed
The Rules cannot be vetoed or removed despite a majority vote of the admins/mods. Therefore, the Rules that are in place will ALWAYS be in effect and cannot be removed.
This is to protect the forum against a potential overthrow of admin/mod power and thus the potential abolishment of this Constitution of Rules that protects the rights of all the members of The Nerd Republic .
An individual rule may be removed if the admin team deem it as no longer needed/wanted, however, the vote must be a unanimous consensus where everyone agrees. Rules, neither altogether nor individually, cannot be removed simply by a majority vote of the admins/mods.
Likewise, and especially, this rule cannot be removed or altered without a unanimous vote of the administrators/moderators to do so.
