Re: Star Trek The Original Series
Star Trek was a groundbreaking series. It was Gene Roddenbery's vision of what humanity could become if we chose to.
Gene's Vision of the future of humanity was one where there was no more hunger, discrimination or war. Although by modern standards the show seems simple and cheezy at the time is was profound.

I personally think even if at times the show was cheesy, it was still a groundbreaking and amazing series.

Another thing to consider is it is from the same era as Patrick Troughton Doctor Who. To a certain extent any TV from that era looks cheesy to modern eyes

These were my childhood heroes.
I watch these episodes at least once a year to remind me of how awesome a show it still is.

Re: Star Trek The Original Series
I grew up in the 70s watching this show, as well as the Animated series. It still counts as my favourite in the franchise.
I have tried viewing The Next Generation at times over the last few years and found it almost unwatchable. TOS has aged like a fine wine, wheras TNG has dated horribly. Even The Motion Picture is better than any of the movies from number 7 onwards.

Re: Star Trek The Original Series
I bought the first series on DVD the other month. Finally got around to start watching them last week, actually. It can be very cheesy at times, however, I'm quite enjoying it.

Re: Star Trek The Original Series
It's really no more cheesy than classic Who...less so in most cases. The production values and budgets were much better.
